The ex-wife of Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter—aka “Clark Rockefeller”—testified today that the accused con artist was “charming” and “very intelligent” when they first met, but quickly became domineering and unpredictable, the Boston Herald reports. In her first public remarks since Gerhartsreiter allegedly kidnapped their daughter, Sandra Boss said she believed her husband’s made-up back-story and described how they met at a theme party.
“I thought that he shared a lot of my values about changing the world,” Boss said, referring to Gerhartsreiter’s claim he renegotiated the debts of small countries. Boss also described how Gerhartsreiter insisted on following her to work and threw temper tantrums. A livery driver also testified today that he was tricked into helping kidnap Gerhartsreiter’s daughter; he thought Gerhartsreiter was fleeing an annoying family friend.
