Hurricane Dean is ripping through the eastern Caribbean, strengthening as it goes. The Atlantic's first hurricane of the year is passing between St. Lucia and Martinique, where residents have boarded up windows and stocked up on supplies. Next on Dean's agenda: Jamaica, and possibly Texas.

Dean is now a Category 2 hurricane—with 100mph winds—but is expected strengthen to a Category 4 as it passes over warm water. In Texas, there's no guarantee of a visit from Dean, but people are getting ready just the same. "It's so far out, but it's not too early to start preparing," says a spokesman for Gov.Rick Perry.
