Carine Roitfeld, editor of French Vogue, went through the worldwide gossip mill last year when she was rumored to be Anna Wintour's successor at the icon's US edition. But, Roitfeld tells the Guardian in a wide-ranging interview, she was never approached. And if she had been? “It’s really not me. I’m good at what I do here.” The style icon sat down to discuss her fashion philosophy and personal style.
The former stylist, one of the few Vogue editors with that background, still styles shoots to “keep my feet on the earth.” She insists labels are not important: “Fashion is not about clothes, it is about a look.” In Vogue, she likes to combine “sex, nudity, a bit rock ’n’ roll, a sense of humor,” and she has the same attitude with her own wardrobe: “I love when things are not quite going together. Even when I am old I will dress like that.” (More Jay-ZTV stories.)
