Rove Will Be Questioned Over Attorney Firings

Karl Rove is on the hot seat tomorrow. The former Bush adviser will be interviewed by federal prosecutors as part of a criminal investigation into the firings of US attorneys in 2006, the Washington Post reports. Rove will meet with Connecticut prosecutor Nora R. Dannehy, who has been charged with figuring out whether Bush officials misled investigators looking into the dismissals.

Both Rove and Bush lawyer Harriet Miers are scheduled to deliver testimony to the House Judiciary Committee next month in addition to the present questioning. A lawyer for Rove and a spokesman for Dannehy both declined to comment on tomorrow’s meeting. Rove's role in the firings, which critics say were politically motivated, has never been clear, notes the New York Times. The interview suggests the investigation is drawing to a close.
