A colleague of the University of Georgia professor suspected in a triple murder April 25 went into hiding after police found directions to her house in George Zinkhan’s abandoned car, she tells the Red & Black. At investigators’ urging, Barbara Carroll stayed out of sight from May 1-6. “I do not believe that Zinkhan had a map to my house for any reason other than he had planned to kill me,” she wrote.
Zinkhan was found dead in a shallow grave last weekend. Police said today he spent his final moments digging the 15-18-inch-deep hole. He then lay down in it, and pulled a pallet covered with dirt over his body before shooting himself once in the head. “I think we were very fortunate, given the circumstances and the steps he took to conceal himself, to have some kind of resolution,” an officer told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
