Clinton Gets Comfy at State

Hillary Clinton’s transition from presidential candidate to secretary of state wasn’t easy—and neither is the new gig—but the former first lady has taken it all in stride, the New York Times reports. “I love the job; I mean, it’s really hard,” Clinton said, likening the post to being the “mayor of a good-sized small city.” But though many agree she’s comfortable, some think her impact could be greater.

“I understand the logic of creating an empire of talented envoys,” one expert said. “But to be a consequential secretary of state, you must put yourself directly in the middle of the mix.” Clinton doesn’t agree. Her staff are “force multipliers” who help her get the job done, she says, even her husband, who is “always value-added.” And they’re necessary, as “we’ve inherited so many problems.” (More Hillary Clinton stories.)
