A second school in Queens has been shut down after dozens of students suffered symptoms of swine flu, reports the New York Daily News. Cases have also been found in Brooklyn and the Bronx, and an outbreak is suspected at a Catholic school in Manhattan. The public school closed yesterday, which serves some 400 autistic students, is less than two miles from shuttered St. Francis Prep, scene of the city's first major outbreak.
Hundreds of St. Francis students and teachers have symptoms, and 28 tested positive for swine flu. At least one sick student at the latest school has a sibling at St. Francis. Ill residents in the Bronx and Brooklyn have friends or relatives who recently traveled to Mexico. So far, the swine flu cases appear like "garden variety flu," and have caused no deaths, said New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. New York, California, Kansas, Ohio and Texas are the only states so far to report cases.
