Pharmacy Bungled Drug for Dead Horses

The Florida pharmacy that prepared vitamin supplements for the 21 polo horses that died last weekend has admitted that the mixture was faulty, the Palm Beach Post reports. Franck’s Pharmacy in Tallahassee said today that the level of one ingredient in the supplement—which the polo team says was Biodyl—was incorrect. The druggist said it is cooperating “fully with the authorities as they continue their investigations.”

At the same time, Lechuza Caracas team owner Victor Vargas appears to be moving against the team’s own veterinarian. A lawyer for the insurer of the Vargas company that owned 12 of the dead horses sent a letter to the veterinarian. “Since you ordered the Biodyl,” it reads, “I believe there may be a possibility that my client may look to you as a party who has some responsibility for the loss.” (More pharmacy stories.)
