Pirate Hunters Coming to TV

Yesterday's daring rescue of Captain Richard Phillips seems like made-for-TV drama—at least to Spike TV. The network has greenlighted a pilot for a series documenting the US Navy’s fight against pirates in the Gulf of Aden, where Phillips’ rescue took place, Variety reports. One of the warships at the scene will be featured on Pirate Hunters: USN.

“We didn’t know whether it would put the kibosh on things or accelerate things,” said the executive producer of the recent standoff. “But the Navy reps told us, ‘This is incredible timing for you guys. You’re going to get a front-row seat in our response.’ They’re changing the mission to be more proactive. In some ways we’re going to capture better action on film than had this not happened.”
