“What did you get on your SATs?” is now a multiple-choice question. A policy enacted last month allows students who take the test several times to pick which score they send to colleges, the Washington Post reports. But many schools aren’t thrilled with the change, and a quarter of them are asking students to continue sending all of their scores.
“We don’t want young people to game the system,” says Stanford’s dean of admissions. Others complain that the change gives an advantage to wealthier kids who can afford to take the test repeatedly. The College Board counters that repeated attempts generally don’t result in higher scores, and students like the change. “It’s really meant to provide a more comfortable test experience,” said an exec.
