For decades, the government barely acknowledged the existence of Area 51, the mysterious military base in Nevada where it allegedly stores frozen extraterrestrials and alien spacecraft. But now, with the CIA declassifying the site’s top-secret programs, insiders are coming forward to dispel the myths, ABC News reports. If anything, “we were the UFOs,” said a former engineer at Area 51.
He said he believes the alien rumors began after military personnel conducted test flights of a spy plane, causing observers to see flashes of light. “Area 51 was the most boring place I ever worked,” he added. But a leading UFOlogist said while the account may be true, the engineer and his colleagues likely “wouldn't know if there was something going on.”
