The Guerrilla Girls gang of subversive feminist artists has apparently reached an accommodation with the white male establishment with an agreement to turn over the organization's archives to the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles, reports the Independent. "We've had this stuff sitting in boxes for ages," noted a spokeswoman, who said the correspondence, photos and sketches will help college professors now teaching courses on the Guerrilla Girls.
The anonymous artists group—which has peppered New York public spaces with provocative protest art posing questions like, "Does a woman have to get naked to get into the Met?"—has been embraced by the mainstream since its 1985 birth. Guerrilla Girls art has shown at London's Tate and the Venice Bienalle. So are the protest days over? Hardly, "Culture likes to think it's avant garde, when really, it is still very derrière," hooted the GG spokeswoman.
