Democratic Reformer Wins Emanuel's House Seat

Mike Quigley has cruised to victory in the special election for Rahm Emanuel's old seat in Congress, the Chicago Tribune reports. The reform-minded Democrat had 70% of the vote in Illinois' 5th congressional district, a heavily Democratic area on Chicago's north side, with 94% of precincts reporting. Quigley plans to head to Washington as soon as tomorrow to prepare to take office.

A victorious Quigley told supporters last night that while he would inevitably be seen in Washington as "the guy taking Rahm Emanuel's seat," he would fight to build his own credentials. "We have our work cut out for us, but we'll get it done, one day at a time," said Quigley, who became known for taking on establishment Democrats in his time as Cook County commissioner.
