The ball from Barry Bonds' record 756th home run could fetch a cool million at auction, some experts say—though they warn Queens native Matt Murphy to sell now or risk striking out. "In today's memorabilia world, proximity to the event is important," one auction-house president says.

Mark McGwire's single-season homer record ball sold for $3 million, although it may be worth significantly less now. And controversies over Bonds' alleged steroids use may cut into the value of his missile over time: the BBC points out that Bonds is earning millions less in endorsements than he would if his achievements were controversy-free.
