At least three police officers in Pittsburgh were shot to death this morning while responding to a domestic call, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. At least one other was wounded. The gunman, in his early 20s, held police at bay for more than 3 hours before surrendering. He was reportedly shot in the chest and leg. The incident follows the fatal shootings of four officers in Oakland about 2 weeks ago.

The gunman, identified as Richard Poplawski, called a friend before the standoff. "Eddie, I'm going to die today. Tell my mother and friends I love them. This is probably the end." Police have not spelled out any possible motive or the details behind the original domestic call.
