NY Gunman Called 'Angry Loner'

Investigators trying to piece together a motive for the massacre at a Binghamton, New York, immigration center believe gunman Jiverly Voong may have been recently laid off, the Press & Sun-Bulletin reports. The Vietnamese-American, 41, worked at an assembly plant in the town until November, where colleagues described him as an angry loner who hated America, loved guns, and spoke of assassinating the president.

Neighbors, however, remember Voong as polite and helpful. His father was a respected member of the local Vietnamese community and is believed to have volunteered at the same community center where Voong killed 13 people yesterday. A handyman who worked for Voong late last year said he often mentioned that his wife and kids had left him. "He was a very nice guy, but he seemed very, very depressed," he told the New York Daily News.
