Skirmishes have broken out in front of the Bank of England in London's financial district, and police officers have been pelted with paint and bottles, the Guardian reports. Several thousand people have gathered in the City, and protesters have been shoving against the pens erected to contain them. The diverse group of anticapitalist and environmentalist protesters are carrying banners reading "Capitalism isn't working" and "Make love, not leverage."
Not far from the bank, climate change protesters have erected a tent city in the middle of one of London's main boulevards, where they have vowed to stay for 24 hours. Several businesses in the City have shut for the day, but a handful of bankers in the area have been taunting the protesters by waving cash from their office windows.
