It could take days to reach six miners stuck 1,500 feet underground in a collapsed Utah coal mine, rescuers warned yesterday. No contact has been made with the miners, though they're believed to be trapped in a spot with adequate air and water. "Pray, pray, pray," begged the president of the company that owns the mine.

The miners "know where they're at; it's just a matter of getting to them," said the local sheriff. Rescuers are throwing themselves into every available method of finding the victims, the Deseret News reports, including boring straight through the mountain above them and navigating a warren of unused mine shafts.
