Nancy Pelosi said this week “we have to keep the door open” to the possibility of a second stimulus bill—but most lawmakers, including fellow Democrats, are allergic to the idea, Politico reports. “If there’s appetite, there’s not in my office,” said one. “Enough for now. No mas. No mas.” House Financial Services chair Barney Frank called such a measure “too soon.”
“No sensible person is trying to guess what will be appropriate policy six months from now,” he added. Republicans are saying that talk of a second bill suggests Dems don’t think the first will work. “Just three weeks after President Obama signed his ‘stimulus’ bill into law, congressional Democrats are already conceding that it will fail to achieve its objective,” said House Minority Whip Eric Cantor. Dems argued we must give the bill time.
