The grandfather of the California octuplets says he'll fight for his daughter Nadya Suleman’s right to raise her kids, ABC News reports. "I will stop anybody from taking my grandchildren away," Ed Doud said in an interview with Good Morning America, responding to reports that the hospital currently caring for the octuplets may not release them to their mother. Some have questioned Suleman’s mental health, especially after a recently discovered 911 call in which she threatened to kill herself.

"We have a loving home, loving mother and there's no way, no legal right for anybody to take my grandchildren anywhere," Doud said. The family also plans to raise the children without taxpayer handouts—though they may tap the network of donors who already have contributed. "If we struggle, we will ask for help," Doud said. "We're not going to ask for help from taxpayers."
