Tiger Woods is usually spectacular in his first start of the season, so why was he lackluster last week? The Wall Street Journal says the answer lies in a comment Woods made a week earlier, when he said he didn’t have his “golf stamina” back. Woods wasn’t talking about his ability to lug a bag; he was referring to his concentration, attitude, and confidence, the Journal says.
Former British Open champ Tom Lehman has explained golf stamina as "all about being battle-tested and tournament-tough. If there's any doubt or uncertainty about whether you're ready, it will show up.” Woods probably harbored doubts about his slightly altered stance and swing—doubts that should fade. On the other hand, says the Journal, "Past results, as readers of this newspaper know all too well these days, are no guarantee of future performance." (More Tiger Woods stories.)
