Ahead of her meeting today with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Hillary Clinton advocated a thaw in relations with Russia, an approach a bit less "confrontational" than her predecessors. "We're going to press the reset button," she told the BBC at an EU meeting in Brussels, but expressed a resolve to stand fast on "areas where we just flat out disagree."
Clinton identified common goals between the nations, including "our efforts against terrorism, our efforts on behalf of arms control and non-proliferation," and energy and climate issues. But, says Clinton, Russia cannot claim a "sphere of influence" or get veto power over new EU or NATO members.
