Iran has enriched enough uranium to make a nuclear bomb, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mike Mullen told State of the Union today. "Iran having nuclear weapons, is a very very bad outcome—for the region and for the world," Mullen said. A recent report by the IAEA revealed that Iran's stockpile of nuclear fuel might be significantly larger than the country has indicated, but that Iran is cooperating with inspectors, Reuters reports.
The US government, now considering diplomatic overtures toward Tehran, has called Iran's continued enrichment of uranium an "urgent problem." The IAEA issued a watchdog report two weeks ago on the larger-than-expected output, but says that Iran has since signaled a willingness to ensure such a miscommunication doesn't happen again. Tehran insists it only wants nuclear power to generate energy.
