Amtrak is trying to lure high-end customers by offering $100 in free drinks to passengers who book luxury berths on certain overnight trips. The GrandLuxe trips, which start at $789,  feature gourmet meals—which already include free wine—and personal butler service.

With house wine selling for $6 a glass and drinks for $7, the deal could provide a well-lubricated ride, but whether it will move tickets remains to be seen. The alcohol credit will initially be offered from November to January to members of Amtrak's frequent traveler program to gauge response. (More Amtrak stories.)
