Jason Belmonte could single-handedly change bowling forever—or is that double-handedly? The 25-year-old Australian has the charm and talent to be a star in a sport that badly needs one, but what’s made him a YouTube sensation is his novel delivery style, the Wall Street Journal reports: a two-handed shove which can send his ball spinning an insane 600 revolutions per minute.

But not everyone’s in love with the rising star. Some pros question whether the two-handed style is even legal (it is), while others see preferential treatment from the top US league. Still others say Belmonte—and his imitators—risk career-ending injury. “All you have to do is watch,” said one coach. “They put an awful, awful strain on their legs and back.” (More bowling stories.)
