Zagat has issued a new guide—not to dining, but to dating and dumping in the big city, the New York Times reports. The survey of residents in New York, Los Angeles, and other cities says:
- Blind dates: Just 2% considered them a good way to meet partners. Mutual friends (33%) and online (25%) are better bets.
- Texting: Only 2% approved it for setting up a date. Good way to break up, though: 10% admitted to sending a Dear John text.
- After the breakup: While 68% said they'd return belongings to an ex, a small but vocal 2% minority approved torching them.
- Where to go: Wine bars and lounges, said two thirds of responders; only 1% considered karaoke acceptable on a first date.
- Who to date: Most New Yorkers won't date outside the metro area, but are tolerant of differences in income disparity and politics.
- Best qualities: Intelligence, personality, and sense of humor all got 90%-plus ratings, while "overall attractiveness" came in with 79%.
