Sure, the economy's in the toilet, but there’s always $3 million in the couch cushions for 30 seconds come Super Bowl time. But it remains to be seen whether this year’s crop stick to a reliable winning formula: Include “animals, potty humor, violence, celebrities, sentimentality,” or “a stupid catchphrase,” as Peter Hartlaub puts it for MSNBC, which chose the 10 best.

  1. Coke, “Mean Joe Greene”: A boy offers the football star a Coke and gets a jersey in return.
  2. Budweiser, “Respect.”: Bud’s trademark horses kneel in front of the New York skyline where the Twin Towers were.
  3. Reebok, “Terry Tate Office Linebacker”: A football player wearing Reeboks hurls himself at anyone breaking office rules.
  4. Apple, “1984”: A woman interrupts an Orwellian scene by throwing a sledgehammer at Big Brother’s screen.
  5. Budweiser, “Frogs”: Three frogs croak the brand name: “Buuud. Weeeis. Errrr.”
