Maverick McCain Back in Action

Too bad John McCain couldn’t get this story written before the election: the New York Times reports that, back in the Senate, McCain is reverting from his dour, orthodox campaign persona to his maverick and frequently bipartisan ways. He’s been hanging out with President Obama, and he told off Republicans trying to delay Hillary Clinton’s confirmation as secretary of state. “He's an activist legislator. He's not an obstructionist,” says Maine Republican Susan Collins.

“I remind all my colleagues: We had an election,” said McCain."I think the message the American people are sending us now is they want us to work together, and get to work."  Responds Texas Republican John Cornyn: “I understand his point. But there was also a serious policy reason for why I think we needed some debate and discussion.” And does Cornyn have a sense of where McCain’s headed? “In a word, no. I have no sense.”
