Oregon’s attorney general today announced the launch of an investigation into the conduct of Portland’s mayor, who Monday copped to having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old male intern. As more details emerge, the Oregonian also reports that a Portland Mercury writer who confronted Sam Adams last year about the alleged relationship was given a job with the mayor, perhaps to squash her investigation.
Adams, his staff, and the reporter claim there was no connection between the events; the openly gay Adams also maintains his relationship with Beau Breedlove, whom he met in 2005 when the intern was 17, did not begin until the following year. “Sam is decompressing, he had a very long day yesterday,” said his rep. “Needless to say, calls are coming in. Lots of them.” (More Portland stories.)
