Mad Men Creator Will Stay On

The creator of the AMC hit Mad Men will stay on at the show after strained negotiations with the network yielded him a seven-figure deal, Variety reports. Matthew Weiner's two-year commitment, covering the third and fourth seasons of the '60s-era drama, is said to include a commitment to develop a film with Lionsgate, which produces the show. The movie reportedly won't be based on Mad Men, which is back with new shows this summer.

Bickering over Weiner’s demands, which are said to have climbed to eight figures, made industry headlines. Lionsgate was rumored to have been investigating other prospects to run the show, and AMC is said to have kicked in some cash to finance the deal. Now, though, things are sanguine. Weiner praised “two companies who love taking risks and value creativity,” and Lionsgate is happy “to have Matt back in the family.” (More Mad Men stories.)
