This is one transition pick who won't have to sit through confirmation hearings: Michelle Obama has chosen an interior decorator from Los Angeles for the family's private quarters in the White House, Domino magazine reports. Michael Smith has previously done work for the likes of Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Rupert Murdoch. First up will be the bedrooms of Sasha and Malia.

"I think what he manages to do is to create historically based rooms that make sense for how people live today," Domino editor Deborah Needleman tells AP. "The rooms are very comfortable and airy and light, and I think it's very rare that someone does big important antiques in a way that feels very relevant for how families live."
