Federal prosecutors have convened a grand jury to investigate whether Roger Clemens committed perjury when he told Congress he’d never taken steroids, ESPN reports. The grand jury has subpoenaed Kirk Radomski, who says he supplied Clemens with drugs through the pitcher’s trainer, Brian McNamee.
Investigators have been looking to tie Clemens to other distributors of illegal performance drugs, and the convening of the grand jury may signal the discovery of new evidence. Prosecutors “are either just trying to show Congress that indeed they are doing something,” a Columbia law professor tells the New York Times, “or this is the beginning of something interesting.” (More Kirk Radomski stories.)
