Rod Blagojevich says he's not surprised by today's vote to impeach him because the Illinois House has been out to get him for a year now, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. "It happened kind of fast," said the Illinois governor, who called a defiant news conference to reassert his innocence. "But again, kind of expected. And part of the process that has been the dynamic in Illinois." He once again closed by quoting poetry, this time Tennyson.
"From the very moment of my re-election I've been engaged in a struggle with the House to get things done for people," he said. "The House has stood in the way of letting that happen." The governor, whose fate is now in the hands of the state senate, ticked off a litany of projects he's undertaken on behalf of Chicago families, predicted he will be "exonerated," then read from Alfred Lord Tennyson's Ulysses.
