Bush Wants a Gate to Keep Public Off His Dallas Street

President Bush wants to limit access to his new Dallas home by putting up a gate on a public street, the Dallas Morning News reports. City officials must approve the plan, but it seems the Bushes' Preston Hollow neighbors are willing to go along with it. "It's great the Bushes are moving here, and it's great that they're doing whatever they need to do," one said.

The gate—which would be paid for with federal money—is allowed under a law that lets cities block streets "on which the dwelling of a former president of the United States is located." Security is the No. 1 reason for the gate, but it also would deter gawkers trying to catch a glimpse of the 8,500-square-foot home. The city is still figuring out the best spot for the gate.
