Caroline Kennedy understands she will have to work to gain the respect of the public and her peers if she is appointed to the US Senate. "I came into this thinking I have to work twice as hard as anybody else," Kennedy told the AP. "I am an unconventional choice."
Kennedy defended herself against charges of inexperience, saying there are "many ways to public service." She also said her distance from the media so far has been out of a respect for the appointment process: “It is not a campaign," she said. "If I were to be selected, I understand that public servants have to be accessible."
