The 76-year-old widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and a character in the science fiction classic, is dead. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry appeared in the pilot for Star Trek as assistant "Number One," and in the series as Nurse Chapel. She also provided the voice of the Enterprise in the original series and The Next Generation and subsequent series, reports the New York Daily News.
After Gene Roddenberry died, his widow developed several of his unfinished concepts into new syndicated shows. She died at her home in Bel-Air after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Her voice will be heard for the last time in next year's Star Trek movie.
