Apple shocked observers by announcing yesterday that its appearance at next month's Macworld Expo will be its last, Marketwatch reports. CEO Steve Jobs will not be giving a final keynote address at the San Francisco industry gathering where he has traditionally unveiled new products. The company's stock dived 5% following the news amid rumors about its significance.

A statement from Apple said trade shows have never been a big part of its business. Some experts speculated that the move could mean Jobs' health is failing, however, or that an internal power play is afoot. "Apple could have dismissed a lot of rumors by having him give the final keynote and opted not to," said an analyst. (More Macworld stories.)
