Bill Clinton agreed to rules covering his charity work and earnings so his wife can run the State Department, but the new restrictions still offer the former president plenty of leeway, Politico reports. Clinton may stick to the rules at first, but  “then perhaps—just because he has this magnetic attraction to these sorts of opportunities—he will gradually test the waters more,” said a Clinton administration official.

Clinton can:

  • Give speeches worldwide for six-figure sums
  • Solicit millions for the Clinton Foundation and take foreign donations
  • Hold major Foundation events overseas
But:
  • He can’t take money or host events overseas for the Clinton Global Initiative
  • He can’t give speeches, consult, or host events without checking in with the State Department—though he’ll offer a “head’s up,” not requests for permission
  • He must disclose all Foundation contributors.
