Man Spends $7,500 Fighting $115 Parking Ticket

You have to give one thing to Simon Belsky: He’s persistent. But New York courts have been loath to give the 63-year-old anything else. Belsky has spent 2 years and, by his estimation, $7,500 fighting a $115 parking ticket. The delays have upped the ticket’s cost to $200, but Belsky isn’t giving in. “I got nothing else to do. I’m retired,” he tells the Post.

Belsky got the ticket for allegedly parking in front of a fire hydrant in 2006. He’s spent the time since arguing that the hydrant was actually farther down the street. Last week, the case was adjourned for the second time, and won’t resume until Feb. 2. If Belsky wins, he intends to sue the city for his legal expenses. (More parking ticket stories.)
