Boston Sports Fans Think Pink

Talk about an embarrassment of riches. The Boston Bruins have long toiled in the shadow of the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots, but there's a surefire way to tell that the local NHL entry's hot streak is the real thing, Charles P. Pierce writes for OT, the Globe's weekly sports magazine. At a recent game, he found signs of what he calls "the Pinkification of Sports."

The sight of a little girl in a pink Bruins jersey gets him to thinking about the much-maligned fans who wear pink Red Sox caps—but unlike many fans, he doesn't see pink as the color of the apocalypse. "It is now obvious that, the pinker your sport, the better your team is performing," Pierce writes. "So now there are pink Bruins jerseys. You know what that means? It means you might just have the best team in the NHL here, that’s what it means." (More Boston stories.)
