Hollywood found a new way to protest California’s passage of anti-gay-marriage Proposition 8: song and dance, the AP reports. Prop 8: The Musical, posted on FunnyOrDie, features Jack Black as Jesus reminding the religious right that shrimp cocktail is also a Biblical “abomination.” The hero of the day is gay-in-real-life Neil Patrick Harris, convincing everyone that “gay marriages will save the economy.”
Creator Marc Shaiman, Tony Award-winning composer of Hairspray, was boycotting a nonprofit musical theater company whose artistic director donated to the “Yes on 8” campaign, and was ready for a more light-hearted approach to protesting. The video’s star-studded cast also includes Margaret Cho as a supporter of gay marriage and John C Reilly as the conservative villain campaigning for Prop 8. (More Proposition 8 stories.)
