The once-dominant New England Patriots ran into the NFL's top-ranked defense on a rainy, cold day in Foxboro today, the AP reports:

  • The Patriots were sacked four times and gave up five turnovers against the Pittsburgh Steelers—in the second half alone. Ben Roethlisberger tossed two TDs and Jeff Reed kicked four field goals in Pittsburgh's 33-10 win.
  • Eli Manning had his first 300-yard game as the New York Giants beat the Washington Redskins 23-7, without wounded receiver Plaxico Burress, USA Today reports.

  • Brett Favre didn't score once against the Denver Broncos' 28th-ranked defense, leading the New York Jets to a 34-17 loss. Denver's Jay Cutler made 27 of 43 passes for 357 yards and two TDs.
  • The Panthers clinched a 35-31 win over the Green Bay Packers with 1:30 left, when DeAngelo Williams ran for his career-high fourth TD of the game.
  • Jermaine Phillips and Phillip Buchanon fended off a relentless Drew Brees, intercepting the NFL's top passer in the final minutes to steal a 23-20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers win over the New Orleans Saints.
  • Defensive end Robert Mathis scooped up a fumble to score the Indianapolis Colts' only TD against the Cleveland Browns. The Colts won 10-6, adding substance to their playoff hopes.
