Barack Obama joined a disabled veteran of the Iraq war in laying a wreath at a memorial in Chicago today, the Tribune reports, with a few dozen spectators witnessing the president-elect’s long Veterans Day appearance. President Bush, meanwhile, was in New York, WCBS-TV reports, praising military members as part the re-dedication of the USS Intrepid, a World War II-era aircraft carrier that’s now a museum.

“Veterans have inspired me,” Bush said. “I was raised by a veteran. I appreciate the commitment to our country that the veterans have made. Our nation is blessed because our liberties have been defended by brave men and women in the past and we are blessed to have brave men and women defend our liberties today.” (More President Obama stories.)
