A video produced by the nation's largest union of firefighters attacks Giuliani's leadership during and after 9/11 and urges members not to vote for him. The 13-minute spot features interviews with relatives of fallen firefighters. “The fact of the matter is that we think it is ludicrous that Giuliani wants to become commander in chief,” says the union's president.
The video chides the former mayor for the poor communication system that cost firefighters' lives in the disaster and a focus on speed over safety during the cleanup. The Giuliani campaign was quick to trot out its own firefighters to defend Rudy's honor, also pointing out that the firefighters' union has traditionally endorsed a Democratic candidate.
