The flagging economy is threatening to send Nevada's whorehouses to the poorhouse, the Los Angeles Times reports. Managers of some of the state's 25 legal brothels say they have no shortage of newcomers—some as old as 74—wishing to enter the world's oldest profession, but food and fuel prices mean the truckers they rely on for business are running short of cash.
Some brothels have started offering gas cards to customers who spend enough. The truckers are beginning to shun pricey extras and getting tight with their tips. Some long-haulers blame their shortage of "play money" on the government, others on big oil companies. "They've got you over a barrel and can do whatever they want to you," complained one trucker. "And they don't even kiss you when they're done."
