A University of Southern California sprinter was recovering today after being shot in the leg three times after leaving a Halloween party, the AP reports. Bryshon Nellum, 19, was hospitalized in stable condition following the shooting at 2 a.m. yesterday, police Officer Sam Park said. Nellum had attended a party at a restaurant near campus and was leaving when he was attacked.

"He was walking out to his car and group of guys in a car pulled up next to him and yelled some sort of gang-affiliated name and shot him," Park said. Nellum was shot three times in the left thigh and hamstring. No arrests have been made and it was unclear whether Nellum knew his attackers, Park said. After surgery, doctors hoped he will be able to resume his track career. (More sprinters stories.)
