Joe the Plumber remained a fixture of John McCain’s campaign today on the heels of his prominence in last night’s debate, the Chicago Tribune reports. “Joe's the man,” the Republican said at a rally. “He won and small businesses won across America. The American people are not going to let Sen. Obama raise their taxes in a tough economy.”
Joe (Wurzelbacher, of Holland, Ohio) came up in the debate because he had suggested to Barack Obama that the Democrat's tax plan would hurt his ability to become a small-business owner. "Joe the plumber said, ‘Look, I've been working all my life, I want to buy the business I'm in, but you’re going to raise my taxes,’” McCain told supporters. “You know what Sen. Obama said? He wants to spread the wealth around.” (More John McCain stories.)
