Apple Notebooks Set for Upgrades, Price Drop

Tomorrow, Apple will unveil its latest notebook incarnation—but what that will involve remains shrouded in secrecy, CNET reports. It’s likely to be some kind of major update to the 2-year-old MacBook line, perhaps a new graphics chipset and aluminum casing for the lower-end models. It could also be time for Apple’s first notebook priced under $1,000.

Many are saying the new notebook could be an entirely new, less powerful machine for $800. But why release such a product when Apple is steadily growing despite consistently charging more than competitors? “Eventually they have to (offer a lower-end notebook), but I don't see the evidence that they need to find new buyers now that aren't willing to spend over $1,000,” says an analyst.
