A Taste of China Opens in Baghdad

The central Baghdad neighborhood of Karrada has seen its share of brutal changes over the past few years, but saw a sign of life in January, when a Chinese restaurant opened its doors, reports Middle East Online. "Like security in Baghdad, it will get better," said one of the owners, referring to his inchoate menu.

Though Karrada has a reputation for being fairly liberal by Baghdad standards, the last Asian restaurant is more than two years gone. But the owners of the newest one are determined, despite the violence."Bombs?," says one. "I have already seen many. But one does not think about it. That prevents us from being afraid."
