The McCain campaign, losing ground in battleground states, ratcheted up its attacks on Barack Obama today, Reuters reports. Sarah Palin accused Obama of "palling around with terrorists" at a rally in Colorado. She cited a New York Times article about his relationship with a former member of the radical Weather Underground, though the article generally concluded that the two were not close.
"Our opponent though is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough that he is palling around with terrorists who would target their own country," said Palin, who called Obama an embarrassment. The Obama camp dismissed the charge as "gutter politics." A McCain spokesman also accused Obama of "lying to voters" by mischaracterizing McCain's plans to reform health insurance.
